About & Ticket Info
Angela Wales grew up in the bush at a time when it was perfectly acceptable for children to stay out all day - as long as they were home for tea. Handmade clothes, sputtering electricity generators, early cars, and a life tied to the land.
Barefoot in the Bindis is Angela's vivid and evocative memoir of a country childhood in the 1950s, after her Scottish father sought a life of fresh air in the outback of NSW. The family of seven had no electricity, no running water, no telephone and no choice but to make it their home. Without an ounce of experience, they tamed six thousand acres of bush and established a sheep farm.
Filled with drama and hilarity, joy and back-breaking toil, Barefoot in the Bindis portrays a childhood spent in the bush - it is a nostalgic picture of Australia's past.
